In this, their earliest hour, the guys discuss Mickey’s contagions, hair growth and de-growth, and being positive (not in the ‘we tested positive thanks to Mickey’ sense).

Last week SomaCow focused on Mickey and his sickness. This week was no different. Why, you might ask, would they revisit the same topic? Well, it’s because Mickey shared his germs with us all and we, in turn, with our families. J was so sick that he knew 2 days before the live show that he would not make it in. We’d like to take this time to thank Mickey for giving us all time to spend with our families and reflect on the lovely things that can come out of our bodies, find the blankets that had been in storage, and play rock, paper, scissors on who gets to run out for more Kleenex and NyQuil. You’re the best!

In J’s place, we welcomed Kevin into the studio. Kevin came in about a year ago and did predictions for the whole SomaCow crew including the gender of our little one to be. So maybe he’s not always right, but he did bring cake! Kevin fit in well, taking over for J in these first 2 hours and we thank him for it. You can always chat it up with Kevin in the chatroom when we do the live show Friday nights.

One of Kevin’s trademarks is his long beard. Geoff was in awe. Kevin gave the guys tips on how to grow such a fabulous collection of strands. This week, however, Geoff decided instead of growing his hair longer, he’d pamper himself. He went to Capp’s Barber and got himself a professional haircut. He usually takes care of this grooming himself (he won’t let me help after the botching of the back line of his hair early in our relationship. Hey, I had never used clippers before!) but after the jeers last week about his beautiful bouffant, he decided it was time. He enjoyed the experience so much, he decided to give the rest of the show a gift for a cut and shave. Kevin turned his down and left it for J. He wants you to think that he was being selfless, but we all know he just doesn’t let anyone touch that beard! If you stop into Capp’s, tell them SomaCow sent you in to be pampered.

Kevin’s calm nature did have an affect on the guys, though. They decided that 2009 is going to be the year of positivity for SomaCow. Yes, that’s right, just like how last year they said they would be more inclusive and not say racist-sounding things on the show, this year they will make another…um…commitment to better themselves. So, dear members of The Heard, look forward to a year of positivity from SomaCow. Think they can do it? Yeah, me neither I do!
