I am often amazed at the power and freedom enjoyed by us Merrikans. We have the ability to host a show out of my freaking HOUSE, beaming our thoughts and ideas at the speed of cat to the massive masses, speaking freely about any topic we wish. We can discuss history without bias, the state of the government, potential corruption in seats of power, the fallacy of religion, the miracles of science, we can spread love and respect for our fellow man, help the weak become strong, give the little guy a leg up, and vanquish the oppresors. Imagine if we had these abilities during each major revolution, under Pharoah, under the rule of Stalin, or even Hitler?

We used our powers in this hour to discuss… Television. Specifically, what I watch.

I would talk more, but I have 7 Top Chefs and 2 episodes of Torchwood to catch up on, and that doesn’t even touch seeing this week’s Obsessed. CanNOT get enough of that show!

What do you watch?

It wasn’t JUST TV talk, honestly. We enjoy a call in from resident word architect Randolph LaLonde after the :40, and he gives us some insight into storycrafting, sci fi style. I invite you to listen in, and check out his word at http://www.spinwardfringe.com

And is it Science Fiction, or sci fi, people. I will never understand what the hell that Syfy crap is being foisted on the public. Asimov would so kick your ass if he saw that.

Siffy? Sighphee? Whatever.
Really. Nobody likes us. Everybody hates us. We, if offered enough cheese sauce and maybe some bacon wrapping, would probably eat worms.

So, it’s time. We’re taking the show towards profit. Sponsorships, all that jazz. We were looking at building a new studio, and turning the show into a real fun money maker. You seem to enjoy the show, we enjoy doing it, and Mickey and I would like to put in place the things that will allow us to do this into perpetuity. So, I will include you, as loyal members of The Heard, who would you tolerate ads from? And what KINDS of ads?

We are certainly foodcentric, and it immediately leaps to mind that we should have a food advertiser… and then the show just falls apart. For like, the whole episode, it’s just food, food, food, and McLimerick shakes, and McRibs, and on and on… Holy crap, we eat.

Once we come back from break, Mickey brings up skullcandy, which opens the door to podcast/listener related stuff. Hell, I would love to advertise for the company that makes our board.

It comes down to a discussion of what would you endorse, what would you attach your name to? What would you be willing to “sell out” for?

For me? It usually comes down to a baconator.

We also nail out some listener mail, including one of my absolute favorites, ever. It’s just straight up nutters!

More listener mail from SeaDad,

who apparently went out training with .5o caliber guns and having a great time.

Finally, Glenn Webber went nutsandbolts insane and loaded up a whole wikipedia entry for our dear friend and resident Author Randolph LaLonde. We hope to see this expand with all kinds of info about Randy and his books, and welcome those of you that want to be productive to add positive and useful info about Randy. Get on it! Thanks again so much to Glenn Webber, who assuredly helps us each and every week to put out a better product in an easy to consume manner. That’s listener interaction with class, and we really appreciate it.

Mickey takes us out with some Life Coaching, and it was good. Then he goes on and on and on about a monkey, which was bad, but then he has some good thoughts on google homework, which is good, and under it all, the steady drone of J’s nose and the barking laughter of Ross plays well. You should listen. Hell, we do.

You want some good stuff, ebook style? Go get these!

In this hour, we discussed Jason Statham (Hot), Books and the Way We Read, Late Night ESPN, and how Texas Hold ‘Em has really jumped the crane. Corkscrewed the Bomb? Hired the J? (I didn’t mean that last one, honestly!)

We also spent some time lamenting the Death of Battlebots. I do not know why i liked that show so much, but I did, and always rooted for the wedges to die. Mickey has a good take on wedges in this hour, and how the field-leveler will sometimes just come in and ruin a whole thing for the rest of us. Screw the wedges!

We also want to give some special love to Madhouse – you hep cats want some more of the hotness that is Orlando Talk Radio, head on over and enjoy what Carlitos is putting down.
My flail book review failed this week, as miscommunication and general Meredithing of the situation resulted in Randy’s most recent missive-masterpiece lying (laying?) unread on my microwave for a week. Look for a review this week, and we instead spent some time discussing my favorite book, which, strangely, is one of my least favorite movies.

Instead, this week will be brought to you by Randolph LaLonde. I make the final review of his book, First Light Chronicles. Do pick it up, let him know what you think, and tell him you heard about him here! And then get ready as book #2 is on its way! And you can always join us live every Saturday from 1-4 PM Eastern where you can usually find the author himself chatting along with us. We are so honored. Thank you, Randy for your writings, company, and insight. This episode is all for you.

Here on SomaCow we often do things tongue-in-cheek. We’d like to take a moment to be a little more serious, and recognize two guys this week. First, Carlito from Madhouse Radio stopped in this episode. After listening to a clip of one of their prank calls, he spent some time with us just hanging out and talking. He’s a great guy doing Go’s work in som bunker here in Orlando, and therefore, you should give his show a listen! Let him know you heard about them on SomaCow.

And while we didn’t get to do the review this week, Randolph (we like to call him Randy (or Ralph, or Rutabega, or Rumplestiltskin)) Lalonde has been a faithful listener every Saturday from 1-4 PM at Ustream for our live show. Randy sent us some early copies of his new book, Part of The First Light Chronicles. We didn’t get to review it this week with Carlito in the studio, but we will! We caught up with him this week, though and he has a ton going on! He now has the website www.spinwardfringe.com where he can publicize his books, especially the new ones! so check out his site, and his stories!

We’re so grateful to have such great listeners that are also so talented. Share your love for us with them, ok? But make sure you tell them you heard about them here. We deserve the credit (and paycheck ;)).

Okay, back to the Hippy vs. Frat Guy War!

In this episode we reviewed some listener mail, discussed my love for Taco Salad at Tijuana Flats, and had in Curtis Earth for some innerviewin’ and trivianatin’!

We get a lot of listener mail, from diet advice to cash donations to cows (seriously, I love the cows, thank you to everyone that sends cows), to coffee to cds and more… But this week was a doozie, with books from Randolph LaLonde for review, dutch hats and shoes, and a special gift from our listener, Seadad, deployed somewhere in the middle east. SomaCow now proudly displays a flag that flew over his vessel in country, and we are honored beyond words. Tune in to our Ustream channel to check out the flag, and help us in sending your thoughts to the troops still stationed overseas.

Since my eyes are already watering, we might as well finish the taco salad recipe. These are the keys to happiness, and I am happy to give them to you. Head to Tijuana Flats, and opt for the taco salad chicken (blackened, if you like that sort of thing), hold the olives, keep the jalapenos (danger!) and add on some refried beans. It’s just soooooo good, people! I would also suggest making it “wet”, which is where the staff cover your dish in queso, but somehow, a salad dripping with spicy velveeta just does not FEEL healthy. It does, sorta, feel squishy.

We enjoyed a visit from a man I really respect here in Orlando, namely, Curtis Earth. If you are a fan of trivia, you cannot go wrong in attending one of his various trivia ventures, or just tuning in to his show here. We get some inside scoop on Curtis, including his sales fashion sense, why and how he got into the trivia hosting business, and we enjoy a quick 10 questions courtesy of his skilled cerebrum. Listeners are invited to participate in the questions in this hour, and we will post hour two with all the answers on July 30th.

We eschewed music in this hour, simply because it was too jam packed with good talk. Fear not, and maybe take this opportunity to visit our band page, familiarize yourselves with some of these great groups, and mail me some requests for the show!

Thanks, as always, for tuning in. See you guys on Wednesday!
