Felix from Prime Time Geek stuck around this hour to chat more with the SC boys. Geoff started out the hour talking about the origin of “kick this pig” and his life growing up on a farm. At this time, all of the live viewers in Ustream could see Felix anxiously looking for the quickest exit out of The Martini Room! Mickey shared his life coaching views on getting and using a desk calendar (and not letting it use you…ahem) Felix then noticed that Geoff had a copy of Albert Camus’ The Stranger in the studio. Geoff “blamed” it on me and the fact that it’s a Cure song. Of course it is much more than that…Yes, Killing An Arab (The Cure) was based on this book but it’s also a great book on its own! Felix agreed. Just trying to open some minds, that’s all. Fashion was on their minds, too, it seems. Ross thought it was appropriate to wear pajama bottoms to the show. Now I can’t blame him, I’d say 90% of the time that the show is going on, I’m in pajama bottoms but this sparked a discussion about dress code for SomaCow (at least for the guys). Geoff killed the topic by mentioning the holocaust. And in the rest of strange news from this episode, my husband, Geoff, the sports hater (as opposed to me, the wife who loves most sports), exclaimed, “The Gators may well be the second coming of Jesus”. Have a listen, why don’t you? In this hour, we discussed our respective Independence Day festivities, we remembered our listeners abroad, and the first time we ever got drunk.
Every year I challenge our listeners to take some time here, as our country celebrates its birth, and declare independence from something. It could be as simple as “clothes shopping with my wife” (although, I sort of enjoy that, ’cause I am gay), or overthrowing your local government, or just changing something for good about yourself. But what in your life, today, could you do with some freedom from? This year, I declare independence from AM talk radio hosts. No more Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc. The days of listening, feeling my blood pressure rise as truth and intelligence are sacrificed for platitudes and gut noise are gone. If I want to listen to a parody of a human being, I will enjoy some Stephen Colbert, who does a far better and more believable portrayal of such than any of the originals ever did. My politics notwithstanding, we also want to take some time to thank Seadad, Brent, Brandon, and all our other listeners stationed in the mideast. You guys be safe, and let us know if you need anything.
